Husband of slain Warren woman now faces murder charge in her death

Kimberly DeJohn's body found buried in grave; Loyd DeJohn being held on $1 million bond

WARREN, Mich. – The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has added a charge of first-degree murder against the husband of a Warren woman whose body was found in a makeshift grave in northern Michigan.

Loyd DeJohn, 46, was previously only charged with an assault charge. But during a hearing Thursday in Warren District Court, charges of first-degree murder, disinterment and mutilation, and aggravated domestic violence were added.

His bond remains at $1 million. His next court date is in late August.

The charges stem from the disappearance of DeJohn's wife, Kimberly, from their home in early May.  Her body was found on an abandoned property in Cheboygan County.

Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz ruled the death a homicide by ligature strangulation.

Kimberly DeJohn's sister said the family is still trying to figure out what really happened.

"We are all confused and we are all trying to just hold on to one another at this time," Dawn Hyslop said. "She was a loving person and all I want is for the truth to come out."

Loyd DeJohn's mother, Ann Johnson, said she doesn't know what happened, but she does know her son has changed.

"He's not Loyd. He is somebody. He got things mixed up in his head and everything else," she said.

The couple had been married for 12 years. Their families admit it was tumultuous at times.

"We kept telling them tt is too close. There's too much going on. They wanted to make a go of their marriage," said Loyd DeJohn's grandmother, Nettie Schwartz.
