Pothole-ridden stretch of Greenfield Road in Southfield will get fixed

Road commission says it won't close the road down, will continue to patch potholes

The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) says it will reconstruct the southbound lanes of Greenfield Road between 8 Mile and 9 Mile roads on the Southfield/Oak Park border during this year's construction season.

The stretch has been notorious for causing havoc for drivers because of massive potholes.

Until construction begins, RCOC will continue to patch the potholes on a near daily basis as needed.

RCOC said it doesn't think closing the road would be in the best interest of motorists, residents or area businesses.

"We recognize that this section of Greenfield Road is in very bad condition," stated RCOC Managing Director Dennis Kolar. "We have been working with the City of Southfield for more than a year to come up with a plan for the emergency reconstruction of the southbound lanes. That work will take place this year, during the construction season."
