EAST CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A spokesman for St. John River District Hospital in East China Township says a couple dozen people had to be evacuated Wednesday morning because of a hazmat situation.

Brian Taylor says a potential irritant from the hospital’s boiler system was released into the ventilation system.

Taylor says the evacuations didn’t affect patients and the people were simply moved to another part of the building.

Fire and hazmat crews are on the scene.
