WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Police are searching for a man and a woman who attempted to steal from a Dollar General in the 4200 block of Pontiac Lake Road, Wednesday then returned to the store.

Police said an employee saw the couple place merchandise into a purse and attempt to leave the store.

According to police, the employee was able to take possession of the merchandise and the purse, but both attempted shoplifters were able to flee the store.

Police said a short time later, the couple came back to the store demanding the purse because it had the woman's cellphone in it.

Police said after a couple of brief struggles, the couple was able to make their way out of the store.

Police are now looking for a white man with a crew cut and wearing a tan Carhart jacket, dark pants and tan work boots.

The woman is described as white with black hair and wearing a multicolored coat and dark pants.

They are believed to be driving a dark-green Chevrolet Lumina.
