Police: Career criminal caught after crashing car on I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport

Man wanted by police for break-ins in 10 metro Detroit communities

ROMULUS, Mich. – A man is shown on video from the morning of Feb. 16 smashing the front door of a gas station in Livonia.

He was unable to break in despite smashing the door multiple times. However, that didn't stop him from a wild, overnight one-man crime spree.

The same man is shown in another video stealing cash and cigarettes from a gas station in Canton Township. He was wanted by police for similar break-ins in 10 different metro Detroit communities.

Now, Local 4 has learned he has been caught and is behind bars awaiting a long list of charges.

The suspect is a 41-year-old career criminal with specialties in breaking and entering and home invasion. He's also a parole absconder.

At about 6 a.m. last Monday, sources say he hit four businesses and two houses before crashing his car on Interstate 94 near Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus.

After the crash he walked to a rental business in Romulus and went inside. He wasn't wearing a coat and was covered in blood while carrying a woman's purse. When he stashed the purse outside under a tree, an employee saw what he did and thought it was too strange, and then called police.

Police found stolen jewelry in the purse.
