Police: 2 men caught with 40 stolen shopping carts

Two men were arrested in West Bloomfield for stealing, of all things, more than 35 shopping carts from a Commerce Township Target store.

WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. -

Two men were arrested in West Bloomfield for stealing, of all things, more than 35 shopping carts from a Commerce Township Target store.

Police discovered the stolen carts after pulling over 25-year-old Justin Arabo of Southfield and 20-year-old Lawrence Arabo of West Bloomfield for a traffic violation.

The pair was pulled over while driving a U-HAUL Wednesday night, police say.

When police asked the men to open up the back of the truck, 35 to 40 shopping carts were found stacked inside.

The suspects were apparently not deterred by the surveillance cameras in the parking lot of the store. Target says the stolen carts are valued at around $150 each.

Investigators said one of the men admitted to taking the shopping carts. But, he didn't say why.

The men were arraigned on larceny charges given a $5,000 cash surety bond. They will be back in court on May 15.
