The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says alcohol appears to have been a factor in a two-car crash in Rochester Hills that has left one person dead and four other hospitalized.

The crash happened on Dequindre Road just south of Avon Road just before before 7 p.m. Friday.

According to sheriff's office, a 51-year-old woman was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus northbound on Dequindre when she lost control of her vehicle and went into the southbound lanes. As a result, her vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2004 Ford Taurus, which was being driven by a 17-year-old girl.

The driver of the 2004 Ford Taurus and her three female passengers, a 16-year-old, 18-year-old and  35-year-old, were all transported to a local hospital. The two passengers in the back were not wearing seat belts. The four Rochester Hills residents are listed in stable condition.

The driver of the 2001 Ford Taurus, a woman from Ferndale, died on the way to the hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The accident is still under investigation but alcohol does appear to be a factor.
