Parents identify Detroit shooting victim as 15-year-old boy

Teen found shot inside SUV Saturday morning in Detroit

DETROIT – Detroit police say the parents of an unidentified shooting victim have stepped forward to identify the teen.

The 15-year-old was found shot early Saturday morning inside a black Chevrolet Suburban. The sport utility vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.

For five days, police tried to identify the boy who is now comatose at Henry Ford Hospital. When they found him he was not able to speak but did open his eyes.

On Thursday, the boy's mother went to the hospital to identify him. She says she filed a missing persons report but days later when she heard police were trying to identify an injured teen she went to the hospital and found it was her son.

However, Detroit police say there is no record of a missing persons report being filed.

The mother believes her son got caught up with the wrong kids in the neighborhood.
