Nice day Friday, but…severe storm risk this weekend
Updated On: Jul 24 2014 05:00:00 PM EDT
Puffy afternoon cumulus clouds will dissipate around sunset, leaving us mostly clear for the balance of the night. Lows in the mid 50s. Wind becoming calm.
Friday is shaping up to be a very similar day as today. Although we'll probably see fewer of the puffy, fair-weather cumulus clouds, wispy cirrus clouds should start appearing by mid-to-late afternoon, and clouds will continue increasing after that.
Highs near 80. Southwest wind at 8 to 13 mph.
Becoming mostly cloudy Friday night with a few showers and possibly even a thunderstorm developing late at night. Lows in the low to mid 60s.
The weekend forecast is still very tricky, although a few elements are starting to come into better focus. After any Friday night rain leaves the area Saturday morning, we'll probably have a few hours with a break in the action. Then, thunderstorms potentially will develop Saturday afternoon - it all depends upon the location of a front that will be draped somewhere across southern lower Michigan. Should these storms get going, we even have a severe potential...stay tuned.
I'll try to send some Twitter updates to let you know what's going on, and you can see those updates by following me at @PaulGrossLocal4.
Also, don't forget to download the FREE WDIV weather app...it has a great radar display that makes it easy to watch developing storms. Just search for "WDIV" in the app store, and you'll see it right there.
Highs Saturday should reach 80 degrees, and maybe even the low 80s.
Hopefully, the Saturday afternoon storms will end early enough so that those of you going to the Jimmy Buffett concert Saturday night at Comerica Park don't get rained on. The rest of the night should be dry, but muggy, with lows in the upper 60s.
Sunday should start dry, but thunderstorms may once again develop during the afternoon. Once again, there is a severe storm potential...so keep abreast of things if you have outdoor plans. Highs in the low 80s.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms Sunday night. Lows near 60.
Partly to mostly cloudy with showers likely both first thing Monday morning, as well as during the warmest part of the afternoon. Highs only near 70, and a stiff north breeze will make it a pretty brisk day by summer standards.
Mostly cloudy Monday night, with lows in the mid to upper 50s.
Partly cloudy on Tuesday, with highs in the low 70s.
Partly cloudy on Wednesday with scattered showers possible. Highs in the mid 70s.
Partly cloudy on Thursday with a slight chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the mid to upper 70s.
