DETROIT -

The annual launch of the nasty campaign ads that signal the November election is upon us.

Turnaround Detroit, which is the Super Pac supporting Detroit mayoral candidate Mike Duggan but not run by the Duggan campaign, has released two nasty anti-Benny Napoleon ads in the past 24 hours.

"It's what you expect with two weeks out," said political strategist Dennis Darnois.

The ads are negative but not hysterically over-the-top. There is a radio version, too. So, don't be surprised if you hear that in rotation. Actually, don't be surprised when the nasty ads from both sides get into rotation in the coming days.

It is interesting that since the August primary it has been pretty quiet on the campaign front. Such was the case on Wednesday when Duggan and Napoleon met up at the Detroit Economic Club.

Both candidates are trying to stick to their talking points. Neither wants to be taken off message.

"They're not getting off their talking points ... barring a major discovery, you're going to hear the same exact thing in the same cadence for the next two weeks," said Darnois.
