Michigan minimum wage increase begins on Labor Day

First increase in Michigan in six years

Beginning on Labor Day, Michigan workers will see an increase in minimum wage.

The rate will jump from $7.40 to $8.15 an hour.

According to a new law, the minimum wage in Michigan will gradually increase by 25 percent until 2018.

In 2018, the minimum wage will be at $9.25 per hour.

Several groups pushed to vote for the minimum wage to be raised to $10.10 per hour but they failed to receive enough signatures.

This minimum wage increase is the first for Michigan in six years.
