Driver who hit trooper cited for going too fast in snowy weather conditions

BRIGHTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Michigan State Police trooper wasn't seriously hurt Monday night when his patrol car was hit by another driver on US-23 in Brighton Township.

Police said Trooper James Gilmer was parked on a median shoulder in the southbound lanes near Hyne Road because he was helping a motorist.

A Toyota Camry, driven by 27-year-old Deondre Richmond of Flint, lost control and hit Gilmer's fully-marked Dodge Charger, police said.

Richmond was going too fast for the weather conditions, police said. He wasn't hurt, but was cited for violating the state's basic speed law.

Gilmer was treated and released from a hospital for minor injuries.
