Michigan State Police: 2 people seriously hurt in rollover crash on I-696

Eastbound lanes from Hoover Road to Bunert Road reopen after being closed for hours

WARREN, Mich. – Two people were seriously hurt early Monday morning in a rollover crash on I-696 in Warren.

Michigan State Polcie said the single-car crash happened around 5:30 a.m. when a Dodge Neon lost control and went up an embankment before rolling back onto the freeway.

Police said the driver was ejected from the vehicle sustaining severe injuries and is currently in surgery at St. John's Hospital in Detroit.  The passenger sustained minor injuries.

It appears the driver may not have been wearing his seatbelt.  Fatigue and alcohol are being investigated as factors in the crash. 

The eastbound lanes from Hoover Road to Bunert Road were closed until 9 a.m.
