LANSING, Mich. -

The state says Michigan's seasonally adjusted jobless rate has risen 0.1 percentage points to 8.8% in the latest month as the size of the workforce grew while the number of people employed remained flat.

The Department of Technology, Management & Budget released the July report Wednesday. June's unemployment rate of 8.7% was up 0.3 points from May.

The rate has dropped 0.5 percentage points from July 2012's 9.3%.

Michigan's jobless rate remains higher than the nation's July rate of 7.4%, which fell from 7.6% in June.

The department says the civilian labor force rose by 9,000 to 4.728 million in July, while the number of those working held steady
