Mark Fields steps in as Ford's CEO

DEARBORN, Mich. – The Alan Mulally era at Ford Motor Company is over.

On Wednesday, the automaker's Chief Operating Officer, Mark Fields, will step into Mulally's role as Chief Executive Officer.

Mulally's last day at Ford was Tuesday following nearly 8 years with the automaker. His departure, and his successor, was announced in May.

Fields, 53, has held numerous roles at Ford over the past 25 years and was COO during the Mulally era. Fields joined Ford in 1989.
