Man pleads guilty to murder in French street artist's slaying

Bilal Berreni's body was found in July 2013 outside Detroit housing project

DETROIT – A man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a French Street artists during a robbery outside an abandoned Detroit housing project.

Drequone Rich entered the plea Thursday. He'll be sentenced Sept. 18.

Bilal Berreni, 23, of Paris, France, was found dead in July 2013. He had no identification, and it took seven months before police identified him through fingerprints.

Rich and two other co-defendants, Jasin Curtis and Dionte Travis, were all originally charged with first-degree murder.

Curtis pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 to 40 years in prison.

Travis is scheduled for trial later this month.

A 14-year-old was also charged in the case as a juvenile.
