Man confesses to murder after body found

DETROIT – A murder investigation is underway in Walled Lake after a dead body was discovered inside an apartment. And police said a man in custody confessed to the murder.

Residents said they noticed a strong odor coming from the building and that the smell had been getting stronger over the past few days.

Police found the body in the lower level apartment and the Walled Lake police chief said it was fairly decomposed.

Residents say they'd complained about the pungent smell to the landlord.

Sources said the 51-year-old man had been dead for days and that his body had been wrapped in plastic

Neighbors said the victim mostly kept to himself. But a couple of moms in the area said the first time they'd seen the victim was about two weeks ago when he started yelling at the neighborhood kids for playing outside.

Police said the person in custody is a 21-year-old man. Officials said he told them that he committed the crime and that he knew the victim.

It's unclear how the victim died.

Officials said all signs are pointing to foul play.
