SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

Monday, the man accused of trying to grab a 1-year-old boy appeared before a judge for his arraignment.

James Kutty Varghese was charged with felony kidnapping after a Shelby Township woman says he grabbed her son and then ran.

Britney Wrobel is grateful her 1-year-old son Zach is in her arms today after want happened Saturday afternoon.

Baby Zach is a walking machine, so his mom took him for a stroll right outside their home at the Fox Lane Apartments.

That's when she noticed a man at the end of the apartment stairs.

"He picked the baby up off of the ground, I was still holding his hand when he picked him up. He grabbed him and sprinted towards the dumpster," said Wrobel.

Wrobel ran after the man and managed to stop him just a few feet away in front of a bike rack.

She fought for her son, "I chased after him and grabbed him back, I didn't think twice," said Wrobel.

Wrobel ran to her neighbors in front of her building and called police.

"I can't even imagine what would have happened if he got away," she said.

Shelby police picked up Varghese and now baby Zach can walk freely once again with his mom and older brother by his side.

Bond for Varghese was set at $500,000.
