Lt. Gov. Brian Calley's brother a suspect in hit-and-run

John Calley, 25, turns himself in after Orange Township incident

ORANGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The brother of the state's lieutenant governor is being questioned after a woman was dragged by an SUV in a hit-and-run, Local 4 News has learned.

The man being questioned is John Calley, who is the brother of Lt. Gov. Brian Calley.

Local 4 has learned he turned himself in Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run in Orange Township, which is outside Grand Rapids.

Surveillance pictures posted on the Ionia County Sheriff's Office Facebook page showed a man inside a gas station Wednesday. He then left the store and got into a blue SUV.

A woman tried to get in on the passenger side of the SUV when the vehicle took off. Police said she was dragged and run over in the gas station's parking lot.

Local 4 spoke to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office, which said it has identified a suspect, but wouldn't release any names.

Local 4 called Gov. Rick Snyder's office and officials there confirmed John Calley, the 25-year-old younger brother of Brian Calley, is a suspect in the case. They declined to comment further other than saying it's a police and personal matter.

The woman attempting to get back into that SUV is 24 years old. Police don't know her relationship to Calley. Police said she has non-life-threatening injuries and she is not cooperating with the investigation.

According to Local 4's NBC partners in Grand Rapids, Calley turned himself in Thursday and he said he had no idea he had hit the woman.
