DEARBORN, Mich. – This weekend the Henry Hotel in Dearborn was full of princesses and superheroes from Metro Detroit. An annual event that took place on Sunday allowed children with life-threatening illnesses to put their worries aside and shine for a day.

The Palliative Care Team at Children's Hospital of Michigan hosted the 5th Annual Princess and Superhero Party for children that are not expected to live into adulthood. The party started as a small vision and through the generosity of many in the community has grown every year.

The Princess and Superhero party was from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday and Local 4's Lauren Podell attended as the emcee.

Complete with a castle entrance, the children were welcomed into the ballroom and had the opportunity to transform into a princess or superhero with costumes, make up, hair and nails. Last year one young girl wanted to be a princess and a superhero, so she wore a princess dress but had her face painted like Spiderman.

There were games, prizes and a deejay that kept the kids dancing all afternoon. Each patient was presented with a medal, but the grand finale was Cinderella and her carriage surprising the group with an appearance.

The event is held to honor the children for their strength and true heroism when dealing with the challenges their illness presents.
