Judge overrules FAA ban on Detroit-area florist's deliveries by drone

Flower Delivery Express allowed to deliver flowers by using drones

DETROIT – A federal judge has ruled the Federal Aviation Administration has no jurisdiction over small drone aircraft, allowing a Walled Lake flower delivery company to continue testing its flower delivery by using drones.

The FAA originally told Flower Delivery Express that commercial drone use is only authorized on a case-by-case basis. A judge has overruled, saying the FAA's ruling on drone regulation would mean toy airplanes and gliders could be subject.

Flower Delivery Express CEO Wesley Berry said there is a lot to learn about drones, but their eventual use in the flower business is inevitable.

"Drone doesn't get stopped by traffic conditions," he said. "It's the beginning for us."
