Police exchange gunfire with the suspects after they tried to run over an officer.

GROSSE POINTE, Mich. -

A smash-and-grab robbery Friday afternoon at the Moosejaw Mountaineering shop on Kercheval Street in Grosse Pointe prompted a police vehicle pursuit which ended with officers firing gunshots at the suspects' vehicle in Detroit.

Grosse Pointe police tried to stop the vehicle in the city but the suspect driver drove to Detroit -- to Greensboro and Haverhill streets -- where police shot out the vehicle's back window.

The suspect had tried to run over an officer. Police say the suspects started shooting at officers, and that's when they fired back.

Police were able to arrest two suspects at the spot of the shooting.

A third suspect led officers on a foot chase through the Detroit neighborhood but was eventually caught.
