DETROIT – An announcement was expected Tuesday afternoon from Detroit City Council President Pro Tem Gary Brown on his future leadership in the city.

Sources have told Local 4 Brown will leave his post with City Council to take up a restructuring officer role under Detroit Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr.
Brown was elected in 2009. In May, he announced he wouldn't be running again.
The 4 p.m. Tuesday deadline for Brown's announcement has come and gone. It's still not clear what Brown will do. Meanwhile, he is fulfilling President Charles Pugh's duty while Pugh is absent.

Before his time on council, Brown spent 26 years with the Detroit Police Department.
He retired from the department as deputy police chief.
Brown was one of two officers who sued the city on grounds they were wrongfully fired in 2003 under then Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Brown and Harold Nelthrop won the whistle-blower case against the city and received an $8 million payout.
Detroit City Council members have a $74,000 a year salary, not including the current benefit package.
