Press conference to cover recent jewelry store robberies

DETROIT – The FBI Detroit Field Office will be holding a press conference on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at its downtown Detroit office at 477 Michigan Avenue.

The press conference will cover the recent jewelry store robberies in west Michigan and West Bloomfield Township. Thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was stolen from Tapper's Diamonds and Fine Jewelry in West Bloomfield on April 22. There were 12 employees and seven customers inside the store at the time of the robbery.

Police say there were three robbers, one who entered first and then two that followed shortly afterwards. The robbers then pulled out their guns and pushed people to the ground, according to the police.

The employees and customers were not injured.

The robbers went to a specific case in the store.

"They forced an employee at gunpoint to open up a case and all the merchandise within that case was taken," said Lt. C. Lawson, of West Bloomfield police.

The robbers took off within two minutes with the merchandise and were gone by the time officers arrived on the scene minutes later.
