Detroit father recounts how stray bullet narrowly missed sleeping son

DETROIT – Country Ousley allowed Local 4 cameras into his town home Wednesday morning on Detroit's east side to show the room where his 4-year-old son sleeps every night.

Ousley said the home is usually quiet, but after what happened just hours before, the father said he's grateful his son woke up alive.

"The bullet came raging in through the window," the father said. "If the bullet would have come any closer to the wall, it could have hit my son."

A stray bullet busted through the glass on the second-floor of Ousley's town house just after 3 a.m.

The bullet was lodged in the window of his son's room.

"It was like a rapid gun fire," said Ousley. "It was so close it sounded like someone was knocking at our door."

The gunfire forced the family to take cover.

"I ran into my son's room, pulled him off the bed and we took cover on the ground in my room," Ousley said.

Police said the gun violence started at a home on Talbot Street, near Caniff and Conant.

Police confirm two men were shot. Both were taken out on stretchers, but only one made it to the hospital. Police tell Local 4 one of the victims, a man in his 30s, died.

The other remains in critical condition.

More than 30 bullet casings were marked as evidence in front of the home. Some of the bullets also made their way through LaShondra's front window.

"It was like boom, boom, boom, boom. It had to be two different caliber guns," she said. "It was so scary my heart was beating out of my chest."

ATF agents and K-9 units were called to the scene.

At this point, Detroit police said they still don't know how many gunmen are involved, or whether they got away on foot or by car.
