A 73-year-old man was killed Sunday when the Jeep he was driving crashed into a guardrail on I-94 in Chesterfield Township.

Michigan State Police said William Skerchock, of Macomb Township, lost control of his Jeep in the westbound lanes near County Line Road just before 3 p.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said witnesses told them the driver may have become distracted by a dog that was seen jumping around the passenger side just before the crash.

No one else was hurt and no other vehicles were involved.
