Police were still at the scene investigating late into the evening Thursday after Gary Schneider's body was found inside the home. Officers found Schneider's body on the floor inside. They believe some sort of cutting instrument was used as a weapon.

Neighbors told Local 4 the man lived alone. They suspect he was killed during a robbery because neighbors found the man's wallet outside and the doors to the home unlocked. They called police.

"I was out and I looked at the wallet and I realized it was right down the street. So I went back and knocked on his door. I mean, I knew the guy," said Barb Bassett, who found the wallet as she was walking her dog.

She was going to leave the wallet at the front door but decided to tell his neighbor.

"She's the one that found that the door was open, not locked. And she yelled and yelled. With his cars there, and the door open, and the wallet on the street, we called the police," said Bassett.

Bassett said he was a nice man who lived there with his elderly mother until she passed away a few years ago.

A woman who was visiting friends who live a few doors down said she was questioned by police. She said she didn't know the victim and she didn't see any activity around his home.

No arrests have been made.

Michigan State Police also are investigating.
