Man involved in standoff with Ecorse police shot dead

Police identify victim as Billy Joel Woolford

ECORSE, Mich. – Ecorse police said an officer shot and killed a 48-year-old man Tuesday morning who was making threats with a gun.

Police said a witness in a mobile home park off Southfield Road reported seeing Billy Joel Woolford acting distraught and firing shots. Police said the windows in Woolford's home were broken and one witness reporting seeing blood.

Police said when two officers responded to the scene, Woolford swore at them and shot at an armored vehicle.

In a statement, police said Woolford pointed the weapon in the direction of an officer -- that's when he was shot.
