DETROIT -

Detroiters returning from an historic trip to the nation's capital found themselves fighting flames on the freeway Sunday, and it was all caught on tape.

It started out as a bus trip to Washington, D.C. to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic march on Washington, but it ended with some onboard the bus getting banged up.

As Channel 4 reported Saturday, the group from the National Action Network were initially involved in a three bus accident in Washington, D.C. and some folks on board were injured, but on the way home it got worse.

The bus burst into flames on the freeway and a cell phone video captured the thick smoke and fire.

Within just a few minutes, the bus was engulfed in flames on Sunday and the group scrambled to get off safely.

Those charred up items are now in a container, sitting in a church parking lot.

Four people were hurt during the collision, but none seriously. Even with the crash on the way down and the fire on the way back, the group says they are glad they made the trip.
