Crew members assigned to Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay saved a dog they found stranded on the ice of Lake St. Clair on Tuesday.

The crew transported the dog to the ship and hoisted it aboard where it was given food and first aid before being transferred to an area animal shelter for further care.

The Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay is a 140-foot ice-breaking tug home ported in Detroit.

The crew previously rescued another dog from the ice back in March of 2011.
