Detroit police: Woman found stabbed to death; son in custody

Police say son called father to say he had killed his mother

DETROIT – Detroit police say a 24-year-old man called his father early Thursday morning to say he had killed his mother.

Capt. Rodney Cox said the father then called 911 and officers found 53-year-old Sandy Lewis dead from multiple stab wounds just after 4 a.m. in a home on Algonac Street.

"It appeared that there may have been an altercation in the kitchen. We're not exactly sure," Cox said. "We do believe there was a scuffle and then the mother may have fought for life."

The 24-year-old was taken into custody and to a hospital to be treated for a deep cut to one of his hands, Cox said.

"We believe that the son had an illness and that may have contributed to his actions," Cox said.

Lewis lived with her son in the home on Algonac.
