Detroit police to unveil initiative to eliminate crime

LIVE at 5 p.m.: Detroit police are unveiling a new crime-fighting and safety initiative.


The Detroit Police Department in collaboration with Help Eliminate Auto Theft, will unveil the "Heatwave Initiative" to residents, community leaders, and business owners  Monday.

DPD and HEAT are working together to prevent the violent crimes of carjacking. They also want to provide safety awareness tips. 

Members of the DPD, HEAT, and along with volunteers will go door to door, from homes, local businesses, and gas stations to pass out information, door hangers, posters and signs about the H.E.A.T. initiative. 

Chief James Craig, representatives from HEAT and other members of the police department will be at Chosen Generation Community Center to deliver the message.
