DeJon still is in critical condition at a hospital. Witnesses -- many of them DeJon's classmates at Martin Luther King High School -- said he had stepped in to try to break up an argument between two men on the Detroit Department of Transportation bus.

When McGhee stepped in the man got upset, his classmates said. Police said DeJon was defending himself when he punched the man in the nose. The man then took out a knife and stabbed him.
