Detroit Mayoral write-in candidate Mike Dugeon was carjacked by two armed men.

DETROIT -

The man who threw a little more drama in the Detroit mayoral race says he's been carjacked.

Barber-turned-mayoral candidate Mike Dugeon said he found himself up against carjackers Wednesday night at a liquor store at Wyoming and Eaton streets.

The carjacking was caught on surveillance cameras.

In the video obtained by Local 4, two armed men can be seen approaching Dugeon in the parking lot. Dugeon is forced out of his car and backs away with his hands in the air.

"I am like whoa man you ain't gotta do this. Don't do this man," said Dugeon.

Dugeon gave the robbers his watch and walked back toward the store; the men follow him briefly before running back to the car.

Dugeon who was also armed came back out of the store, but the men drove off in his 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Dugeon wasn't hurt.

"I was just in shock due to all this other stuff going on. It seemed like a dream," he said.

The 31-year-old barber, who cuts hair at Ray's Big "D," has filed paperwork to be eligible as a write in mayoral candidate for next week's primary election.

His presence on the ballot may confuse and perhaps prevent write in votes from going to fellow write-in candidate Mike Duggan -- who filed first as a write in and is the former CEO of Detroit Medical Center.

Just days before the primary election Dugeon is left wondering if the incident was a coincidence.

"I am not going to sit here and try to come up some elaborate answer to the whole situation. I don't know," Dugeon said.

He says he's new to politics but he's a veteran of the streets of Detroit where crime happens all to often.

"Sad to say when you grew up in Detroit you create a keen sense of your surroundings," he said.
