Detroit fire battalion chief recovering after crashing on way to scene

Chief Cecelia Buchanan taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital with minor injuries

DETROIT – A Detroit fire battalion chief is recovering after being involved in a crash Tuesday while en route to a scene.

Chief Cecelia Buchanan crashed with a Chevrolet HHR on McNichols Road just east of the Southfield Freeway service drive.

Detroit Fire Commissioner Jonathan Jackson said Buchanan was taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital with very minor injuries.

The other driver involved, in a silver Chevrolet HHR, was not hurt.

Jackson said Buchanan was on her way to a scene on Murray Hill Street.

Buchanan is the department's first African-American female to reach her ranking.
