The plume of black smoke could be seen several miles away.

DETROIT -

Detroit firefighters worked to contain a large abandoned factory fire Thursday afternoon at Martin Street and Wagner Avenue in west Detroit.

The building is at the corner of Martin Street and Wagner Avenue, a few blocks north of Interstate 94.

The fire was raging but firefighters were able to douse it. There were still some flames at about 5 p.m.

Local 4 received calls from as far away as Novi about the large plume of smoke.

There were no reports of injuries. Since this is an abandoned building, the Detroit Fire Department says firefighters worked to contain the flames and let the building burn.

Highland Park firefighters were helping.
