C.J. Barrymore's to bring roller coaster to Clinton Township

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – At CJ Barrymore's, there's about a zillion things to do.

"Now we're up to four go-cart tracks, bumper boats, bumper cars, laser tag, golf, bowling, rock climbing, mini golf," said owner Rick Iceberg. "We have a ton of stuff."

The family entertainment center in Clinton Township has certainly expanded over the 40+ years it's been around.

"I've been coming here since I was kid," Ed Quain said. "Now I bring my kids here and it gets better and better from what it was back then.

Get ready, because Iceberg has even bigger plans.

"The roller coaster gives us a new test in another direction," he said.

That's right: A roller coaster complete with a loop is in the works. Iceberg said customers shouldn't expect it to rival that place on Lake Erie, but it will bring something new to the area.

"We should be able to pull people from farther away, like Lansing," Iceberg said. "We will have unique things in Clinton Township that no one else is going to have."

In all, Iceberg plans to invest $5 million.

On top of the coaster, there are plans to add a 66-foot Drop Tower, a new wooden go-cart track and a zip line. That's some pretty cool stuff that kids we talked to were super excited to experience.

The coaster is being installed just beyond the go-cart track behind the batting cages. It should be ready to ride by next summer.
