Charles Pugh faces lawsuit for alleged relationship with Detroit teen

Former Detroit City Council president now working as waiter in New York

DETROIT – Former Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh is facing a lawsuit over an alleged inappropriate relationship with a Detroit teen.

Pugh was served the lawsuit Thursday morning in Harlem, N.Y. where he works as a waiter. He skipped town last year when allegations surfaced that he took a then 17-year-old boy on lavish shopping trips and offered him cash and video games for nude videos.

The teen's attorney says it was more than just an attraction for Pugh.

"I think that in almost all of these cases this is a question of power," said attorney Bill Seikaly. "It's a question of somebody using their power and their status to achieve some improper objectives with these young people, and think that's what happened here."

It's not clear if Pugh plans to respond to the lawsuit. Detroit Public School also are named in the suit.
