On Sunday, Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy charged three adults in connection with the shooting of a four-year old boy by a four-year old girl.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at a house in the 7100 block of Tuxedo, a loaded rifle was left in a room where children were playing, which resulted in the young girl fatally shooting the boy in the chest. The boy was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
Patricia Johnson (right), 53, Robert B. Richardson (left), 66 and Harvey Wilcher, 55 were in the house and were supposed to be looking after the kids.
Johnson was charged with involuntary manslaughter, child abuse 2nd degree, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.
Richardson was charged with involuntary manslaughter, child abuse 2nd degree, careless discharge of a firearm causing injury or death, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.
Wilcher was charged with involuntary manslaughter, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm.
"These are absolutely the right charges in this profoundly sad case," Prosecutor Worthy said. "I hope that this sends another resounding message that guns and unsupervised young children will court nothing but disaster."
Johnson and Richardson were arraigned Sunday and received a $200,000 bond. Their preliminary examination is scheduled for January 31, 2014 in 36th District Court in Detroit. Wilcher was not arraigned today.
