Canton man accused of driving car into crowd, injuring 2

A 20-year-old Canton man has been charged with assault for allegedly driving in reverse into a crowd of people, hurting two of them.

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A 20-year-old Canton man has been charged with assault for allegedly driving in reverse into a crowd of people, hurting two of them.

Police said Jesse James Winchester got into an argument with several people in the parking lot of a Shell gas station on Michigan Avenue on the morning on Dec. 1.

Winchester allegedly took a friend’s car, put it in reverse, and drove it into a crowd. Winchester then took off.

Two people suffered minor injuries.

Police haven’t said what sparked the arguments between Winchester and the other people.

Winchester was arrested on Dec. 24 when police responded to a disturbance at his home.

He’s charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop at a scene of a personal injury accident and assault and battery.
