Call on overdose turns into police chase in Woodhaven

Chase ends when suspect's vehicle flips on I-75 entrance ramp from West Road

WOODHAVEN, Mich. – What started as a call on a possible overdose victim in a Meijer parking lot turned into a police pursuit which ended in a crash Thursday afternoon on an Interstate 75 entrance ramp in Woodhaven.

Woodhaven police were responding to a report of a woman who was slumped over with a needle in her arm in a Plymouth Neon parked in a Meijer parking when security from the store called about a suspect running from the store.

The suspect ran from the store, got into the Neon, pushed the overdose victim out of the way and started to flee in the vehicle, according to police. Police caught up and tried to stop the vehicle before it rammed a patrol car on the northbound I-75 ramp from West Road.

The suspect lost control of the Neon and went off the roadway, flipping the car on its roof.

Police arrested the suspect and had him treated for injuries. No officers were injured.

Charges are pending.

It's not clear how the overdose victim is doing at this time.
