Cab driver shot to death in Detroit

Victim killed late Wednesday night on Ardmore Street

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating the deadly shooting of a cab driver on the city's west side.

Police said officers responded to the scene at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday in the in the 15700 block of Ardmore Street and saw a man walking away from a Checker cab. As officers approached the man, he threw down a handgun and started to run away. Officers were able to arrest him.

In the cab, police found 41-year-old Babul Miah dead.

Matthew Oddy, operations manager for Checker Cab, said Miah had been a driver for 12 years and recently completed a Detroit Police Department safety program.

"I knew him personally. Babul was a great employee, Really kind man. Didn't deserve this," Oddy said.
