SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. -

A suburban Detroit runner whose Boston Marathon finish was blocked by the bombing attack is getting a chance to run in front of an even bigger crowd at the Indianapolis 500.

Nancy Smith of Macomb County's Shelby Township was one of about 35 Boston Marathon participants who got a chance to run on a half-mile stretch of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday before the start of the auto race.

Indy 500 organizers say the runners also come from Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. They were covering a stretch of track from Turn 4 to the Yard of Bricks.

The participants were halted short of the finish of the 26.2-mile race in Boston on April 15 by officials after two explosions near the finish line on Boylston Street.
