Mother finds body of 23-year-old son partially buried in Detroit

DETROIT – Police got a call at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when the body of a 23-year-old man was found in the 20000 block of Marx Street in Detroit.

When they arrived, the man's body was found in the backyard of a vacant house with gunshot wounds.

"Apparently someone's been squatting here, but from all appearances it looks like it's fairly well kept, until you get into the back," said Detroit Assistant Police Chief Steve Dolunt.

Police say the man's body was buried underneath debris behind a picket fence. It's possible it was dragged from inside the house and put there.

The man had been missing since Sunday morning. Police say it was his concerned mother who paid a street source to tell her where her son's body was.

Family members identified him by the shorts he was wearing.

"Not knowing where they're at is one thing, but actually finding them is actually very traumatic," Dolnut said. "I believe his brother identified him so the mother is having a really tough time, obviously."
