Bloomfield Hills police: Man posed as officer, fired shots into home

Shooting happened Wednesday night on Woodwind Drive

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Bloomfield Hills police say a homeowner is recovering after being hit by several shots that were fired through a front door.

In a statement, Chief David Hendrickson said the shooting happened late Wednesday night in the 700 block of Woodwind Drive, which is near Lahser and Hickory Grove roads.

The victim, whose name is not yet being released, told police a man had approached the home, stated he was a police officer and asked to be let in. When the homeowner refused, the man fired several shots through the door, hitting the victim, Hendrickson said.

The victim is in stable condition.

Hendrickson said witnesses reported seeing the gunman flee in a dark-colored vehicle, but no other descriptions were released.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department is assisting in this case.
