A man who fled to India after the 2008 slayings of his wife and two children in their suburban Detroit home has been arraigned in a Michigan court on murder charges.
Forty-six-year-old Lakshminivasa Nerusu was arrested in February in Andhra Pradesh, near Hyderabad, India.
A Novi police investigator and an FBI agent flew to India and returned Nerusu to Michigan.
He was arraigned Sunday on three counts of first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory penalty of life in prison without parole.
Thirty-seven-year-old Jayalakshmi Nerusu, the couple's 14-year-old daughter Tejasvi and their 12-year-old son Siva, were killed Oct. 13, 2008. Police checking on the family's welfare found their bludgeoned bodies two weeks later.
A day after the slayings, the suspect flew from Detroit Metropolitan Airport to India.
