Authorities investigate after security breach at McNamara Terminal

Traffic in terminal comes to standstill; Man taken into custody

DETROIT – Officials said traffic in the McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metro Airport was at a standstill Thursday evening after a security breach.

A man who was on the sterile side of security ignored a Transportation Security Administration agent who told him to stop. Authorities said the man then entered his gate.

Officials said authorities now have that man in custody.

K-9 units are sweeping the terminal.

The TSA released the following statement Thursday night to Local 4:

"This evening, a connecting Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport passenger exited the terminal via an exit lane. He then decided to return into the terminal, ignoring the instructions of the TSA officer, and forced his way back into terminal.

"This individual was apprehended by law enforcement, and is now in custody. Out of an abundance of caution, Wayne County Airport Police is sweeping the terminal prior to the airport returning to normal operations."

Authorities said the passenger had arrived on a flight from Little Rock and had missed his connection to Los Angeles.

Thursday night, airport police were still sweeping the area.
