Attorney for Bobby Ferguson requests pre-trial dates be pushed back

Motion requests more time to prepare defense for bid-rigging case against Bobby Ferguson

DETROIT – Attorney Michael Rataj filed a motion Monday to request trial dates be pushed back in the federal bid-rigging case against Bobby Ferguson.

Ferguson's pre-trail court date is September 10th.

Rataj, who was appointed by the court to represent the former Detroit contractor, cites a need for more time to prepare his case. He says he will not be ready to try the case until February 2014.

Ferguson is accused of obtaining millions of dollars in public works contracts through false statements and bid collusion.

He's also accused of making false statements in a proposal as part of the Garden View Estates project, a public housing development in Detroit.

Ferguson is scheduled to appear in court on July 18th for a status conference.

His first trial on the same charges ended with a mistrial last year.

In March, Ferguson was found guilty in of racketeering and corruption charges in a trial he faced alongside former mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick.
