Annual Salvation Army Bed & Bread Club Radiothon is Friday

Event runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Oakland Mall

DETROIT – The Salvation Army's 27th Annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon is Friday.

The annual event, which will be at Oakland Mall, is the primary source of fundraising for the Salvation Army's hunger and homelessness program.

One hundred percent of funds raised go directly to help feed and shelter metro Detroiters in need.

It will be broadcast for 16 hours (from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.) on News/Talk 760 WJR-AM.

Since its launch in 1988, the Radiothon has raised more than $28 million.

Bed & Bread Club Chairman and retired Detroit radio Hall of Famer Dick Purtan will join the WJR team to host a segment from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. -- with sidekicks Big Al Muskavito, Ken Brown, Ed Kelly and Jackie Purtan.

Local 4 is also helping out with special appearances from:

  • Guy Gordon - 7 a.m.
  • Carmen Harlan - 12:20 p.m.
  • Lauren Podell - 1:10 p.m.
  • Ruth Spencer - 1:10 p.m.

A $120 contribution, just $10 per month, helps feeds one person for an entire year.
