The number of Angels’ Night volunteers is down this year. Work continues to prepare Detroit for the citywide effort to prevent arson and other vandalism.
Neighborhood patrols will be out the night before Halloween to keep the city safe.
"The fire numbers have gone down tremendously. I think last year they were down to the double digits and low double digits, which is a good thing opposed to the hundreds of fires when it first begun," said one long-time volunteer.
Volunteers help protect the families and neighborhoods of Detroit. More volunteers are still wanted and welcome to patrol during October 29-31.
Mayor Dave Bing says Detroit experienced 93 fires during the three-day Angels' Night period in 2012.
In 2011, the city saw 94 fires over the three-day period of Oct. 29 through Oct.31. The city saw 69 fires during the same period in 2010.
